Is it bad to spend money to install a machine? These few steps in the BIOS settings of a new compute
There are many friends who have newly installed computers in the summer, but some novice users may find that the performance of their new computers is not as good as that of their friends’ computers with the same configuration, and there may be lags or other problems during use. In fact, the reason may be very simple. Maybe it is that the following simple BIOS settings are missing, so that the accessories of the new computer cannot function properly.
In fact, don't panic, the following BIOS settings are very simple, even a novice player who is new to BIOS can easily do it! Next, let's take the platform of ASUS ROG STRIX Z590-A GAMING WIFI motherboard + Core i9 11900K + DDR4 3600 8GB × 2 as an example to talk about how to set up the BIOS "reclamation" of a new computer.
The 11th Gen Core platform is a popular configuration for recent installations
●How to enter BIOS?
For many Xiaobai users, this is a big problem that plagues them. After all, Xiaobai doesn't know much about computers. In fact, as far as the current new hardware is concerned, the motherboards of mainstream manufacturers all support the DEL hotkey to enter the BIOS, and it is very simple to press the DEL key quickly to enter the BIOS interface when starting up.
The following picture is the BIOS interface of the ASUS motherboard, you can see the basic information of the computer hardware: BIOS version, processor model/base frequency/core voltage, memory capacity/frequency/voltage, etc. You can also switch the menu language. There are easy mode and advanced mode, which is convenient for players to do simple or complex settings.
In the BIOS, the user can use the keyboard cursor key + Enter/ESC key to operate, or click the mouse to operate. In addition, the BIOS also supports shortcut keys. The picture below shows the BIOS shortcut keys of the ASUS motherboard. If you can't find the relevant option, or just need to make a single setting, pressing the shortcut key is a good way.
●Enter the BIOS to load the optimized default settings first
For a new computer, after entering the BIOS, it is recommended to load the best default settings once. This operation is equivalent to safely "resetting" the BIOS first to avoid problems during subsequent use.
At the same time, this setting can also be used to set the BIOS after the confusion. If you are not sure whether the BIOS settings are correct, then select "Load Optimized Defaults" to solve the problem with one click.
●Is the compatibility setting turned on? It is recommended to close by default
In the "boot" main menu of the motherboard, there is a CSM (Compatible Support Module) setting. This setting is used for reality and boot devices that are fully compatible with new and old hardware - mainly compatible with the MBR boot system. Install the old hard disk of the MBR system of the system. However, in most cases, it is recommended that you turn it off (turning off is also the default setting), because for computers with new hardware, you can directly set the system to UEFI mode to install the system (UEFI mode is required to open Resize BAR and upgrade Windows 11).
At the same time, in the "Startup" menu, you can set the priority of the startup options, which will be used when installing the system with a U disk.
●Memory XMP setting: one-click to increase the memory frequency
Many novice users have this question: they obviously bought 3200MHz/3600MHz memory, but after installing the machine and turning it on directly, they found that the memory was running at 2133/2666MHz, which did not reach the high frequency advertised by the merchants, including the brands that everyone bought. So is the machine. This is because in most cases, in order to ensure the compatibility and reliability of the hardware, the BIOS will boot at a lower preset frequency.
At this time, we can achieve the nominal value by turning on the memory XMP mode, and improve the computer performance to the proper level. Of course, high-spec motherboards can continue to be overclocked upwards. The manufacturer's nominal frequency is a tested value that can run stably. XMP includes a set of nominal frequency voltage, timing and other parameter presets. Turning on XMP can be regarded as a memory "one-click overclocking". For example, in the settings in the following figure (the specific menu is AI Tweaker→XMP), you can see that the memory XMP has two preset options: 3200MHz and 3600MHz (3597). 3600MHz is the nominal frequency of our two memories. We just need to select the setting as this.
In addition, if you want to further increase the frequency of the memory, then the BIOS also provides a setting option, which belongs to memory overclocking, which has high requirements on all aspects of the computer and is risky. It is suitable for advanced players, but for novice users XMP is the most worry-free operation to improve computer performance.
●Processor settings: Core i9 11900K can enable Intel Adaptive Boost Technology
Since the motherboard + processor set we used for experience is Z590 motherboard and i9 11900K, this set of hardware also has a "hidden" benefit: the processor supports Adaptive Boost Technology (ABT), which is a new addition to Rocket Lake. The technology can directly increase the full core frequency of the i9 11900K to 5.1 GHz, and the multi-core performance is greatly enhanced. Of course, to achieve this goal, the processor needs a strong and stable power supply capability and heat dissipation capability to escort it, and it has high requirements for the motherboard and heat dissipation.
Z590 provides the option of ABT switch in the BIOS, just under the menu of AI Tweaker, players can set it on or off. Since our theme is to make the computer perform normally, for top-level combinations like Z590+i9 11900K, we naturally recommend that you turn on this option to make it "full".
In addition, the 11th generation Core itself provides AVX2 and AVX512 Offset & Voltage Guard-Band Override, and supports the function of switching AVX instructions, and the invocation of AVX instructions will bring huge power consumption and heat. In actual use, in order to make the processor cooler, you can turn off the AVX512 to reduce the processor temperature and fan noise.
After all settings are completed, you can save and exit, and proceed to the next step of installing the system or starting the operation.
In general, after installing/buying a brand-name computer, novice users can perform some simple settings in the advanced BIOS if they want the computer to perform normally and use the computer happily and stably. Mainly include loading optimized default settings, memory XMP boost frequency, enabling Intel Adaptive Boost Technology (i9 11900K processor), turning off AVX512 support, and so on. These are primary BIOS settings, easy to operate and practical.
