A millionaire businessman Michael Kittredge died on 24th July 2019 when he was only 67 years old. He took his last breath in Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by his family and close ones. His family shared in media in 2019 that Michael died due to failure of the Liver after facing a brief illness.

Earlier Michael Kittredge shared in media that when he became successful in his business his parent bought what was originally a three-bedroom colonial-style home in Leverett for $144,000 in 1984. He then keep on adding land to this home and made it bigger up to 60 acres in Leverett and Amherst.

In 2010 Michael Kittredge helped his son open a new separate company for him. In 2010 Michael launched Kringle Candle Co collaborating with his son. His son is also the owner of Farm Tale Restaurant in Bernardston.

Michael Kittredge was a man who always wanted to give everybody else things he didn’t get as a growing kid. After founding his Candle Company Yankee Candle Co in 1969 he began to have success in it. After 1969 he opened a small retail shop in his hometown with the help of his father in an old Holyoke Paper mill in 1973.

Michael Kittredge also opened a famous flagship store in  South Deerfield in 1983. In the year 1998, Michael successfully sold 90 percent of scented candle shares to a private New York Equity company for $500 million USD. After it, he took a long break from his business work and keep on traveling to new places.  He then faced cancer in his body but got succeeded in surviving it.

After suffering from Cancer Michael switched to helping cancer patients. He then decided to become a staunch supporter of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, serving on its board of directors for years. he invested in making  Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Kittredge Surgery Center, Holyoke Community College’s Kittredge Center, the Kittredge Building at The Bement School in Deerfield, and other philanthropic endeavors.

In 2010 he returned back to work with his son after founding Kringle Candle Co. In 2012 he faces a stroke which raised difficulty in his body movement and speech.
